Volunteer Job Opportunities with MSR

MSR, a BWW publication, is run entirely by volunteers. But they need some help. We are looking for a copy editor and two seniors editors. Please send all resumes and inquires to Editor in Chief, Suzanne Guess.

Copy Editor
Job description: The Copy Editor is responsible for working with our team of genre editors and writers to ensure that the content we publish adheres to our organization’s guidelines. Supports our process to meet the publication calendar. The Copy Editor helps ensure that the text we publish is accurate in language, style, and content. The Copy Editor reports to the Senior Editors, and is responsible for fact-checking, proofreading, and editing text.

Job responsibilities:
-Fact-checking, proofreading, and editing texts while maintaining the writer’s purpose.
-Edits for grammar, style, and citation accuracy when required.
-Adheres to the Chicago Manual of Style.
-Collaborates with Editor in Chief, Senior Editors, and Senior Genre Editors.
-Work under tight deadlines.

Desired qualifications:

-Previous editing experience.
-Command of and adherence to style rules associated with print and Web media.
-Ability to work under pressure.
-Conflict-resolution skills.

Senior Editor
Note: This is an unpaid, volunteer position.


Senior Editor (two positions)

Job description: The Senior Editor is responsible for working with the Editor in Chief and our team of genre editors and writers to ensure that the content we publish adheres to our organization’s guidelines. Supports our process to meet the publication calendar, and collaborates with team to develop strategies to improve Mud Season Review’s reach and sustainability.

Job responsibilities (to be distributed between the two positions):
-Collaborate with Editor in Chief and Senior Genre Editors.
-Collaborate with Editor in Chief and Senior Editor to select art, fiction, nonfiction, and poetry selections for publication.
-Maintain staff roster and forward changes to Managing Editor
-Create and maintain shared documents.
-Serve as back-up to Editor in Chief for interactions with BWW Board and Leadership Team.
-Gather final interview, The Take poem, artist, and editor statements to forward to the Managing Editor.
-Assist in recruiting staff to backfill vacated positions and/or new positions.

Desired qualifications:
-Previous editing experience.
-Ability to work under pressure.
-Conflict-resolution skills.
